I'll start by saying that Mary is my grandmother. The idea for the film came from a very simple genesis: I thought that her story mattered, and if I didn't help her tell it - then who would? She is not someone we often get the privilege to see on screen as she's a real life star. She's funny, she's shy, she's beautiful, she's vulnerable - she's so many things that I wanted to capture. I think she's important and I think that her story is important, and I hope that anyone who sees this film will see that same beauty and importance in my grandmother that I do.
